Waterfowl and Sage-grouse Seasons Set

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission on Thursday, August 12, adopted waterfowl and sage-grouse seasons for 2008.

The 107-day goose season, unchanged from last year, will run from October 4 through January 16, 2009, in northern and eastern Idaho and the Fort Hall Reservation; and to run from October 11 through January 23, 2009, in the southwestern part of the state. The bag limit would be four geese.

For most ducks, the season will be 107 days, running from October 4 through January 16, 2009, in northern and eastern Idaho and the Fort Hall Reservation; and from October 11 through January 23, 2009, in the southwestern part of the state. The bag limit would be seven ducks.

The season is closed on canvasbacks. A shorter scaup season will run October 25 through January 16, 2009, in the northern and eastern parts of the state, and from November 1 through January 23, 2009, in the southwest.

Commissioners also set the seasons for sage-grouse, opening September 20 in:
  • Southwestern Owyhee County, 23-day season, two-bird bag limit.
  • Northwestern Owyhee County, seven-day season, one-bird limit.
  • Eastern Owyhee County, closed.
  • Magic Valley, seven-day season, one-bird limit.
  • Parts of Power, Oneida and Cassia counties, seven-day season, one-bird limit.

Southeastern part of the state, east of Interstate 15 and south of U.S. Highway 26, closed.

Mourning dove season begins September 1st. Of course you could be hunting Eurasian collared doves right now. See page 28 of the upland game hunting rules at the link http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/cms/hunt/rules/ug/doveCrane.pdf

Hunting season for ruffed grouse, spruce grouse, and dusky (Blue) grouse starts September 1st.

Fall turkey season begins September 15th.

Sage-grouse, chukar, quail, and hun seasons begin September 20th.
